ABOVE - DNSW - ‘Feel Special’ In conjunction with Elastic Group - we executed NSW’s first ever Luxury Tourism marketing campaign capturing film and stills which were launched globally.
Including composing a custom track (by Declan Harsent with vocals by the talented Emily Nkomo [Jagged Little Pill, Tina]).

BELOW - AMAZON PRIME - TBWA - Grateful to be asked to helm this one from the creative mind of Russ Tucker, brought on with only two or so days to go, after scribbling some storyboards, we built a set, crewed and shot this all on time and budget. Fun fact: did this with Osher having a broken leg!

NIDA
ABOVE - PROLOGUE - NIDA - In 2023 I had the privilege to be asked to Direct some films and audio guides for a special project called “Prologue by NIDA” - changing the way professional development is done.
Our crew worked in conjunction with a NIDA & NAKATOMI (a FINCH Co.) team who designed and wrote a book, made engaging activities, built an app. They also developed narrative based learning scripts that we executed for the app in both videos and audio guides. About 40 pages of script + 20 pages of Audio Guides content was captured in under a week.

The Darkroom
ABOVE: The inception to David’s directing career - David Wrote, Created a treatment and pitched a short film idea to Olympus Cameras and was awarded funding to create what is the Darkroom a film made to discuss the death of his sibling. Made over a year with filmmaking partner - DOP Simeon Pratt it was one of the most emotional and deeply personal work he has ever made.
Its subsequent success in global short film festivals starting with BAFTA qualifying Flickerfest and including a screening at Cannes reflects the care of craft that went into this. (Short Film & Trailer)

BELOW: This artist Spotlight was a passion project made in two hours between a beach and a studio with some gear we had for a commercial the next day - a hustle that paid off with Chloe’s beautiful choreography.

Freelance Director, Photographer, sometimes DOP or just 'Filmmaker' for short. David works across advertising, branded, documentary and scripted with world class support from some of the most experienced production companies.
He’s also a represented long form Writer/Director developing stories for Film and Television.
David has had a diverse career which provides a rich tapestry of life and creative experience. This influences the work he creates everyday. As an ex. electrical engineer/project manager he broke into the Stills world in Europe on long service leave and never looked back. Following the death of his sibling he created is first short film 'The Darkroom' willed into being as pure catharsis - became a festival success and the flashpoint of David's fervent pursuit of film. Since then he has sold a feature film script to a major Hollywood studio, continuing to work in LA as a writer (looking for that long form directing break) while being based in Sydney in advertising; sharpening his skills through continually being able to be on set.
In the last little while - David has had a script funded for development based on his great grandmothers love story and escape of Germany in WW2, directed 40+ minutes of drama written by NIDA for their new product 'Prologue' as well as Directed and Photographed for DNSW on their first Luxury tourism ad, and worked for director Sam Mendes’ (1917, Skyfall) play 'The Lehman Trilogy' just to name a few.
A diverse group of previous clients he has worked for includes Emirates, Nike, DNSW, Olympus, LG, Samsung, NIVEA, Sydney Dance Co, The Sydney Opera House and more; he can't wait for that next challenge - executing the next story you want to tell.
There’s a saying, “writing a book is a lot like reading a book, except the book is trying to kill you”.
So after studio interest on a limited series pilot screenplay, we pivoted the idea to a feature film. With funding I get to exercise what the above maxim feels like by developing my third commissioned feature film script. This story is based on interviews of my Great Grandmother (still living and 98 years old).
Grandma (the screenplay’s temporary moniker) is an unconventional period love story, where an international journey to escape war, ends in an unforgiving Australian welcome.
